WELCOME
In the year of 2312, a disease came into America from a foreign country. The disease was immune to animals of every kind. By 2325, it had wiped out all of North America and the sickness had traveled to Australia and South America. Country by country, continent by continent the disease had cleared each of every human.

In 2364, no humans were left on planet earth. The animals started living the life that they were before humans were created, living wild with no one to hunt them or interfere with their environment. Animals of all kinds, everywhere you look.

It didn't bother her much, the rain. When it rained in the mountains, it often sent some animals running for cover in whatever cave or corner they happened to live in. It seemed silly to Éponine--weather was weather, and there was nothing anyone could do to change it. So why let it interrupt life? Especially today, when the water droplets that fell from the sky were light and scattered. She lifted her head to sniff the air, and couldn't even scent a storm approaching. Nothing to worry about, especially when she had to keep moving. The lone white she-wolf cast a silent glance over her shoulder. The rocky landscape behind her seemed completely still. She was alone, there was no time to stop and rest, especially in the middle of the day. Éponine knew only too well how foolish it was to linger out in the open in these mountains.

For not everyone you met on the road was a friendly face. For although wolves were among those at the top of the food chain, she knew that in a simple moment the hunter could turn into the hunted. Of course, some of the local inhabitants did mean well, but Éponine couldn't say she wanted much to do with them either. Her cynical nature only made her quicker to distrust any stranger who crossed her path; the last thing she needed was to become affiliated with the various troublemakers this world housed...so why even become involved in the first place? One didn't take risks of leaps of fate--not if they wanted to survive. And surviving was the only thing on Éponine's agenda right then. It could be particularly hard for a wolf to manage out here if they didn't belong to a pack. But joining up with anyone else wasn't at all appealing to the lone wolf, so she was willing to face the challenge.

Which was why she had to keep moving. Éponine didn't exactly have a home. She wandered around, occasionally finding a place she deemed acceptable to stay in. But these places never lasted long...things happened. A natural disaster, or a few preditors that she didn't particularly fancy fighting, among other things, always ended up driving her from whever she'd decided to stay. Not that Éponine could say she minded much. If she stayed in one place too long, she became restless: another reason she wasn't suited to pack life. In her opinion, territory wasn't a prize--it was a cage.

Her latest "makeshift home" had been a little nook near the foothills. It'd been nice, because it was very sheltered, but prey had been scarce there. Most animals knew better than to wander into the deeper shadows of the mountainside. Éponine had stayed there only for five days before setting off again. She'd managed to catch herself an aging mountain goat up here(she'd left the remains for whatever scavenger stumbled across it), so food wasn't a problem at the moment. But where to go next...that was the question that was most prominent in the she-wolf's mind. She knew that she wanted to stay in the mountains, at least for awhile longer. Being up here was the most free she'd ever felt, and she didn't intend to let that feeling slip away quite so soon.

West, Éponine thought, glancing up at the sky. She'd head west, to where the land opened up a little more, but was still considered to be in the rockies. She knew the area over there was quite populated, though that probably meant she'd soon enough run into some chatterbox...or worse. Éponine sighed, changed her direction slightly, and set off. She'd just have to be on her guard, was all. But then, that was nothing new.

&&SOUNAN`

whether or not it was simple that he caught up to the owner of the wolven scent was not of any importance. after all, it was what the masculine expected, knowing well that his sense of smell could only betray him under mammoth stress, which tracking never had a chance to do to him. that old goat carried the scent for quite a while, and he had not been in the mood to feast upon already victimized carcasses; he preferred to eat prey he killed by himself. and it had not been wonderful circumstances when he caught the scent; the monstrous lust to kill heightened when the scent drifted into his nostrils, goading him.

when it came to hunting down a new victim, sounan did not enjoy things getting in the way. he would gladly murder the souls who intruded his path, who blocked him from his prey. but, thankfully, or perhaps not, there was no one to block his way at the moment. and that was close to a reward to him, but he ignored it. to others, it would seem that he took it for granted, but really, he did not care; he knew it well, but he only cared about finding his prey.

soon, sounan noticed the scent growing stronger. his tongue slowly slid out, allowing him to lick his chops, almost dangerously slowly. there were bloodstains present upon his tainted pearls, all from the slaughtering he had done - and not just hunting for prey, obviously. killing others was like his passion, and he knew he would want to taste blood on his tongue; wolf's blood. but, then, he may place a bounty upon his own head.

then, his thoughts began to whirl, before piecing themselves into a less confusing puzzle. he could use this soul, and if it were to refuse, then he could fight. whether the opponent died or not, he did not care much, as long as he got to taste plenty of the coppery, crimson liquid and survived in good enough shape. an evil sneer plastered itself upon his lips, before vanishing. he padded to the edge of the rocks, peering through shadowed gaps. he knew the owner of the scent was there.

once his sights settled upon the silhouette near the distance, his sneer began to develop. but he calmed himself down, placing a near false calmness to his exterior. then, calmly, coolly, he strode from behind the rocks, a hauntingly soft, hushed howl escaping his lifting maw. but after two or so seconds, he lowered his jowls, silver pools almost glinting on his calmer exterior.
